Senior Cat Can’t Jump Up Stairs

Tiger wobbled when she walked

I asked ChatGPT what search terms are most used by people with cats that are losing their mobility. It told me that mobility queries like, “Senior cat can’t jump up stairs,” are low volume, but general inquires that relate to mobility are much higher. The highest one is, “cat arthritis signs.” Another phrase that I have seen used frequently was, “Cat wobbles when it walks.”

I often ask the people who contact me with, “Why can’t my cat walk?” type of questions how they found me. Several said that they searched for days before finding a term that produced my contact information, usually many pages down. It’s hard to become known when you do work that is outside the norm.

The good news is that when people find me, they can talk to a real person who has some experience with mobility issues in older cats. Younger cats too!

Two Case Histories of Cats with Mobility Problems

35 years ago, I helped a 2-year-old male cat that became paralyzed following a neuter operation. That case was referred to me by a veterinarian whom I have never met, but had heard of my, “miracles.” I had that kitty jumping up on the countertops again in just two weeks. Back then video wasn’t a thing. I would have loved to make a video on that one!

Here is a video of a cat walking like a drunk before I was contacted. After a series of Zoom sessions where I guided the owner to do what I would do if I was there in person, she ran up the stairs and jumped onto the bed. You can’t know how good that makes me feel!
