Why Is My Cat Not Eating?

Cat not eating
Could fight/flight be involved?

People frequently search, “Why is my cat not eating?”

They also search:

“Cat eating less but still drinking water”

“Why won’t my cat eat but otherwise seems normal?”

If your cat has not eaten a bite for a couple days an emergency trip to the vet is in order.  But if they are eating less and less and they are still drinking water things may not be so dire. Commonly people start switching foods to see if their cat is tired of the same old fare, but that rarely works for long. I’ve worked with people who have stacks of cases of a variety of unused cat foods in their closet!

Is my cat just finicky?

Ask yourself, why would a cat that has eaten a particular type of food faithfully for years suddenly say no to that food? Clearly, something has changed. It could be serious and need a veterinarian’s help, or it might be that something activated your cat’s fight/flight response. This is far more common than most people realize.

How does Fight/Flight get activated?

The internet is full of cats getting their fight/flight response activated, often deliberately, so people can make a viral video. Yes, that can be funny but, knowing what I know, it’s painful to watch. Loud noises, scary things suddenly popping up to confront them are standard cues, but let’s say that a dog or cat or a person in the household dies. That can activate the fight/flight response as well. Something that throws their world into turmoil is all it takes. Sometimes it can be in response to their significant person having a shock in their life. Our pets feel our stress and must respond to it.

Can Your Cat Get Reset?

Fortunately, My Neuro-Energetic Balancing™ resets the fight/flight system as it restores physical and energetic balance. It’s like pushing the reset button! A woman called me and asked if I could help her figure out why her cat was not eating. Then she brought her lovely long-haired tabby cat to me because he hadn’t been eating but a few bites of his food for about a month. The vet’s tests couldn’t find anything wrong, so the woman turned to me.

When she brought him in, I tried to tempt him with a sure thing, bonito flakes. He sniffed and turned away. I left them there and started the Neuro-Energetic Balancing™ process. He was perfectly happy to lie there while I gently touched the active nerve/energy points. Twenty-minutes later when I was done, I pointed to the bonito flakes that were about six inches away and he got up and ate what was there. I put a few more down and he ate those too!

I asked the woman to call me the next day and let me know if he was eating. Boy, was he! For breakfast he ate his normal amount, and he wanted a midday snack too. She was confident he would eat his dinner. I said to be sure to call me if his appetite failed again. She never called me, so I assume he did well.

Why does it work?

Fight/Flight is a priority one system. It exists to save your life by ramping up certain body processes, like heart rate and blood pressure, and it diverts blood from the digestive system to the muscles for more strength, agility, and speed. Everything else takes a back seat to the fight/flight response, even thinking! When we reset the system the normal housekeeping functions like rest and digestion can return to normal. Here is a video of Queenie. She had an ear infection and was barely eating. Getting reset changed her life!
